FACET · Haute Joaillerie

Cut to hold the light.

Scroll carries you into the stone exactly as far as you scroll, and no further.

Dispersion

Inside, light breaks into fire.

White light enters; what leaves has been taken apart into everything it was hiding.

The cut

Fifty-seven decisions.

A brilliant is a set of angles argued over for a century. We hold the crown at 34.5 degrees because the light says so.

Total internal reflection

Light enters once. It leaves when we say.

Below the girdle, every wall is a mirror at the critical angle. The stone keeps the beam until the cut lets it go, up, to your eye.

Exit

Then, all at once, it's yours.

The beam that entered as white light leaves as everything else.

The finished stone

It ends on velvet.

The stone you just travelled through, set in warm white gold. Made once, for one hand.
