The argument
The fuel was never the problem. The distance was.
Every square kilometre of the crust holds enough heat to run a town for a century. It sits four kilometres down, under rock that took two hundred million years to settle, and until drilling got cheap that distance made it theoretical. It is not theoretical now. We put a hole through the basalt, run water down one side and steam up the other, and the field runs at ninety-four percent capacity through a winter that flattens every other renewable on the grid.

One hole, two directions
Cold water goes down the injection leg at eight bar. It picks up the reservoir temperature across nine hundred metres of fractured basalt and comes back up the production leg as dry steam. Nothing is burned and nothing is consumed. The only thing that leaves the site is electricity.
The return
And then it comes back up as light.
Forty thousand homes on the Reykjanes grid, heated and lit by rock that was never dug up, never burned, and is still exactly where it was.
